Delta Boeing 767 suffers engine incident on takeoff from Los Angeles

A flight to Atlanta returned to Los Angeles following an engine fire just after the takeoff.

Delta Air Lines flight DL446 departed from Los Angeles International Airport Friday, July 18 2025 to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

While climbing from runway 25R, the Boeing 767-400ER (24 years old) experienced left hand engine fire right after the triggered the gear up.

The crew stopped the climb at 3,000 feet and turned around towards LAX Airport. The aircraft powered by GE CF6-80C2 engines, landed safely with emergency services on standby.

The fire had been extinguished by firefighting crew upon landing on runway 25L, before the plane taxied back to the terminal 3.

Back on January 2023, the same Boeing 767 (registration N836MH) suffered damages to its right wing flap. The flight to New York JFK returned to Paris.
