Lucy Liu To Star In New Peacock Crime-Drama ‘Superfakes’

Lucy Liu (Rosemead, Presence) will star in and executive produce the new Peacock series Superfakes, from creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer Alice Ju (Poker Face, Beef).

The crime-drama follows a small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer who enters a dangerous black-market underworld in order to fund a life of suburban respectability for her family.

In addition to Ju and Liu, executive producers also include Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie (The Curse, Uncut Gems); Howard Klein (The Office) and Olivia Gerke (Fantasmas) for 3 Arts; Ronald Bronstein, and Eli Bush. A24 and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, are the studios.

Liu most recently worked on The Devil Wears Prada 2, alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. Before that, she produced and stars in the indie feature Rosemead, which will be released in theaters this December. She is known for starring in films that have grossed more than $3.7 billion worldwide, including Kill Bill, Charlie’s Angels, Chicago, Set It Up, Presence, and Red One. She was recently awarded the Locarno Film Festival’s Career Achievement Award. 

Liu earned Emmy nominations for Ally McBeal and The Pirate Queen (VR), and has produced documentaries, including Freedom’s Fury and Redlight. She is repped by Framework, CAA and Schreck Rose Dapello.
