MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Montgomery charter school Life Academy is canceling classes for the rest of the week after multiple cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease were diagnosed.
Life Academy initially canceled classes through the third grade but, in a Tuesday message to parents, said the cancelation is being extended to the entire school as a precautionary measure.
Classes will resume on Monday, Sept. 29. Students are in asynchronous learning in the meantime.
HFMD is a viral infection that is common and usually affects young children, causing sores on the mouth and rash on the hands and feet.
According to the Mayo Clinic, HFMD is typically mild and lasts between 7 and 10 days.
