Drew McIntyre’s thirst for revenge got the best of him at Wrestlepalooza. He attempted to kick Cody Rhodes’ head through the announcer’s table just like he did a few weeks ago. And that incident led to The American Nightmare’s absence for nearly a month.
The impact of the attack on The Scottish Warrior’s right leg seemed severe. McIntyre immediately clutched his leg after the move went awry. This further hampered his ability to hit the Claymore Kick on Rhodes. His leg gave way, which enabled the champion to pull off the Super Cody Cutter and Cross Rhodes to retain his Undisputed WWE Championship.
Following the event, Drew McIntyre posted an image showcasing the inspirational cycle that ‘suffering builds character’ in the wake of his Wrestlepalooza loss.

Cody Rhodes Has High Praise For Drew McIntyre After Wrestlepalooza Win
In the Wrestlepalooza post-show, Cody Rhodes was asked about the thought process during the match and fighting someone like Drew McIntyre.
“I think you always have to know when that moment happens. Red light’s on. The opportunity presents itself. As my old man used to say, opportunity knocks, and the best answer, controversial situation, no doubt. I would like to take a moment, everything that’s happened, put my head through a desk, all those things, but I have to offer up respect in some sort of reverence. Drew McIntyre is the real deal. Real deal.” (37:33 – 38:00)
Big E further questioned Rhodes on his wrestling IQ and Drew McIntyre’s failed attempt that ended up injuring him instead.
“Being a student of the game, I suppose. I mean, that’s very, very high praise, and thank you, but you know this, anyone who’s been in the game a long time and they’re a veteran in it, after a certain amount of time, the game speed picks up. The moves get more dangerous. Things get more wild.” (38:33 – 38:40)
The Premium Live Event kicked off WWE’s debut on ESPN.
