Younghoe Koo’s time with the Falcons has come to an end.
Koo, 31, was released by Atlanta on Friday, replacing him with kicker Parker Romo, the team announced.
The one-time Pro Bowler had been with the Falcons since the 2019 season and was known for consistently posting some of the highest field goal percentages in the NFL, with an average of 90.1 percent from 2020-23.
Koo experienced a dip in consistency last season, hitting field goals at a rate of just 73.5 percent.
Ahead of the 2025 season, Koo reportedly made 90.2 percent of his kicks during the Falcons’ training camp and preseason, good enough to initially earn the starting job this year.
“I want to thank the Falcons organization for giving me an opportunity when no one else would six years ago,” Koo posted on Instagram. “This place helped me grow as a kicker and as a man. I will forever be grateful for the support from the fans during my time here.
“I have nothing but love and respect for everyone in the building, I wish yall the best. I’m full of gratitude and excitement as I continue my journey in this league.”
The Falcons signed Romo to the practice squad shortly following Koo’s 44-yard field goal miss during the final seconds of Atlanta’s 23-20 Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers.
If made, the kick would have sent the Falcons to overtime.
Atlanta then started Romo ahead of their Week 2 game against the Vikings, with Koo not traveling with the team.
Romo then proceeded to go 5-for-5 — including a 54-yarder — on field goals during the Falcons’ 22-6 win over Minnesota on Sunday.
Following his stellar performance, Romo went viral for his postgame interview in which he admitted that he barely knows his teammates’ names after being called upon on such short notice.

“You know their names, right?” NBC’s Melissa Stark asked.
“I know Bijan,” Romo replied, pointing at Atlanta’s Pro Bowl running back.
“This is Leonard Floyd over here,” Stark told Romo, who shook hands with Floyd.
“Man, 10 years in the league, come on! Former No. 9 pick in the draft. Dude, what’s your name, man? Nice to meet you,” broadcaster Mike Tirico said after the interview.
