Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury: “We feel like we have two starters [at QB], which his rare”

Washington Commanders offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury spoke to the local media on Thursday afternoon ahead of Sunday’s home game against the Raiders. Jayden Daniels’ status for Sunday’s game hasn’t changed and he missed his second practice today after suffering a knee sprain vs the Packers last Thursday. Kingsbury said Marcus Mariota will be ready, and he feels like they have two starting QBs on the roster.

“We feel like we have two starters, which his rare”

At running back, Kingsbury said the game plan will be “by committee”.

“I think it’s huge [that the QBs are so close], and you have to give Tavita Pritchard, our QB coach, a lot of credit for building that type of camaraderie in that room — and David Blough, the assistant QB coach”

“I would let anyone in that room marry my hypothetical daughter, except Hartman ‘cause he’s way too good looking”

“Chase is one of the most dialed in players I’ve been around”

“The run after catch stuff and the ability to make people miss in space…the first guy never tackled him”

Rookie RB Bill Croskey-Merritt:

“Just [needs] to continue to progress, especially playing without the ball”

“He’s definitely been thrown in the fire, no doubt”

“He’s a big part of what we do in the run game; we’ll just have to be creative with the other [players] we have”

Overall assessment of the offense over two weeks:

“I’d just say, ‘a work in progress’”

The relationship between LT Laremy Tunsil and RT Josh Conerly Jr.:

“It’s been awesome to see JT really take [Conerly] under his wing. I know he took him…to Auburn to work with him. That’s not anything we asked him to do, that’s just the type of person he is.”

“He’s a guy who’s versatile; I think he can play inline; we see him more as an off-the-ball guy”

Noah Brown contingency plan:

“We’ve got some young guys that we like, and are continuing to develop, so I like the group we have. You can’t replace a guy like Noah with his experience, but I like the group and I think they’ll continue to get better”

Terry McLaurin double teams:

“As the offense continues to build and grow together, his opportunities will pick up and they won’t be able to double him as much”
