7 Bedroom Paint Color Trends You’ll See Everywhere in 2026

Nothing refreshes a bedroom as quickly as a new coat of paint. And with colors of the year being announced across paint brands and designers sharing their expert takes, it’s the perfect time of year to pick a new hue.

Whether you’ve grown tired of a specific color or want something more vibrant than white, the 2026 bedroom paint color trends are an inspiring starting point.

We spoke with three experts who shared a handful of notable colors they predict will be big come next year, from soothing sage greens to deep plum tones. Here are seven of the biggest bedroom paint trends to keep your eye out for.

Soft Stone

This year, expect a mix of soft neutrals to go from paint chip samples to enveloping bedroom walls, including soft stone. It’s not too surprising when you consider what many people expect their bedrooms to be: Calm, restful spaces.

“After years of cool grays and crisp whites, people are craving warmth again,” says designer Lauren Saab. “Such tones are restful, and have a natural quality about them, like a return to peace after years of overstimulation.”

She says that stone and pale mushroom hues in particular give rooms a softer aesthetic and wrap the space in “diffused warmth.”

One option that feels just as versatile as white but brings more warmth is the very aptly named Skimming Stone by Farrow & Ball.

Muted Green

Green is one family of colors that often appears in trending bedroom colors. It’s no surprise, as many of the subtler tones give an air of serenity. This is particularly true for shades like sage and moss.

“Muted green gives an inherent connection to earth and nature that feels stable rather than trendy,” notes Saab.

Designer Anika Tarasiewicz also adds that it’s one shade that works well with other colors and finishes already present in your room, especially if you’re leaning into a theme that embraces nature.

“They pair beautifully with natural textures like linen, oak, and stone,” she says.

Textured Neutrals

Another trending option is more of a play on texture as opposed to a specific hue. Designer Alykhan Velji says that treatments such as plaster and wallpaper can completely transform your average neutral-colored bedroom.

“These help to create spaces that feel more layered and nurturing,” he says.

Textures, whether it’s abstract or a pattern, offer more depth and nuance. Your eye has something gentle to look at as opposed to a purely blank wall. It’s a great choice if you find colors too overwhelming, but think white and neutral tones can feel a little bland.

Explore limewash paints, like Bauwerk Colour’s shade Tranquil, for an option that’s a little different.

Soft Clay

Tarasiewicz explains that a good portion of 2026’s trending bedroom colors fit into what she calls grounded elegance.

“These are shades that feel calm, textural, and timeless rather than overly styled,” she says.

Soft clay, as well as the aforementioned muted green, are two examples of this.

“When used in the right combinations, these tones can make a bedroom feel layered, calm, and comfortably lived-in without ever feeling flat,” Tarasiewicz adds.

If you’d like to lean into the clay-colored bedroom trend, Tarasiewicz suggests looking at Sherwin-Williams’ Sunbaked Hues collection, which features colors like Pennywise and Henna Shade.

Warm Brown

While cream, white, and beige have always been in the line-up of popular bedroom shades, this year, we’re seeing something even deeper and cozier. Mocha Mousse was Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year, and cocoa browns are clearly here to stay.

“[Bedrooms] need to feel more like sanctuaries, so you are seeing richer color palettes with deep reds and warm browns being introduced,” Velji says.

But don’t expect brown to flee after 2026 either. It’s here to stay; after all, what could be a more warming color to surround you while you sleep?

“I see deeper clay tones and brown-based neutrals becoming the new classics,” Tarasiewicz says. “Earthy yet refined enough to feel distinctly modern and fresh,”

For the perfect cocoa brown, try Wild Mustang from Behr or Coffee Date from Clare for a deeper shade.

Deep Plum

Moody blues and deep plums are also quietly emerging. A more surprising color that’s making its way to trending status for next year is deep plum. Saab notes that this shade, as well as moody blues, will be requested by homeowners as a more colorful (but still calming) choice for bedroom walls.

“They give a feeling of cocooning luxury that feels anything but heavy,” she says. “The proper finish gives these darker shades a cinematic quality that seems intentional and luxurious.”

Whether you’d like to color-drench your room or opt for an accent wall, opt for Backdrop’s paints: Lobby Scene is great if you want a reddish hue, whereas McQueen brings more blue into your bedroom.

Deep Clay

Both softer and deeper shades of clay are making their way onto bedroom walls this year. Clay is a versatile bedroom color, allowing you to choose between deeper umbers or corals that lean further into pink. No matter what you select, a good portion of these colors are warm and comforting.

“Bedrooms need to be spaces where people can escape to and need to feel like sanctuaries, and these deeper color palettes help to do that,” Velji says.

Lastly, you might be wondering which bedroom paint colors are losing their shine in the new year. Saab says that bright white and icy gray are two big contenders.

“They give a flat, cold quality to bedrooms, especially when artificial light is in use,” she says. “There is a desire for softness and imperfection instead of the sterile look that dominated design for decades.”

Tarasiewicz agrees, adding that icy blue will also decrease in popularity. It’s another shade that brings a cold air to a room, visually.

“Warmer palettes create a cozy, relaxing atmosphere with inviting comfort and depth,” she says.
