Six people have died, and 25 people have been hospitalized due to a listeria outbreak linked to recalled precooked pasta meals.
The Food and Drug Administration, which first announced the outbreak in June, said in an update on Oct. 30 that more illnesses have been reported related to ready-to-eat pasta meals from food supplier Nate’s Fine Foods
Recalled products include Sprouts Farmers Market smoked mozzarella pasta salad, Scott & Jon’s shrimp scampi with linguini bowls, Trader Joe’s Cajun Style Blackened Chicken Breast Fettucine Alfredo and Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce.

New deaths were reported in Hawaii and Oregon with illnesses reported across 18 states including California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington.
“Nate’s Fine Foods is committed to the highest standards of food safety and the well-being of our consumers,” the California company said in a statement in September.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we are voluntarily recalling select products after being notified of a potential link to a multistate outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes.”
Consumers are urged not to consume the recalled product.
Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
In pregnant women, the infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infection of the newborn.”
Listeria infection is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the U.S., according to the CDC.
Each year, an estimated 1,250 people are infected with Listeria and 172 die from the infection in the U.S.
