49ers vs. Seahawks game thread: Expect the unexpected in a divison rival

The San Francisco 49ers get Trent Williams and Christian McCaffrey back. Brock Purdy will have Ricky Pearsall as well as Jauan Jennings to throw it to, but no Brock Purdy. Pearsall and Jennings will have their hands full against Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon. That should open up plenty of opportunities in the passing game for McCaffrey and George Kittle.

If the 49ers’ offensive line can provide enough space for McCaffrey, he’s good enough to do the rest. He will make you miss, and his nose for the end zone should dramatically improve the 49ers’ red zone offense. Seattle’s defensive line is good, but they don’t have the type of speed rushers that typically hurt players like Jake Brendel or Colton McKivitz.

On the other side of the ball, Robert Saleh takes on Sam Darnold. That is an advantage for the Niners by a landslide. Rookie Marques Sigle gets the nod at safety. We’ll see how he’s used with Jason Pinnock in the backfield. None of this will matter if players like Nick Bosa, Bryce Huff, and Mykel Williams dominate the line of scrimmage.
