13 shot, 2 dead in Robeson County mass shooting

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – The Robeson County Sheriff’s office along with additional law enforcement agencies are investigating a mass shooting just outside of Maxton.

Sheriff Burnis Wilkins says the shooting happened during a large Halloween party on Dixon Drive near McGirt Gin Road.

Thirteen people have reportedly been shot, and two people have died as a result of the shooting, according to Burnis.

Deputies initially responded to the home due to a loud music call.

According to RCSO, communications received multiple calls around 1:15 a.m. reporting that people had been shot at the location.

One hundred and fifty people reportedly ran away from the scene before officers arrived.

Upon arrival, Deputies reportedly discovered Jessie Locklear Jr., 49, and Nehemiah Locklear, 16, both of Lumberton, dead at the scene.

Multiple additional victims arrived at Scotland Health Care in Laurinburg and UNC Health Southeastern Medical Center in Lumberton.

Officials say one victim was later transported to an undisclosed medical facility with life-threatening injuries.

“This was yet another senseless act of gun violence that has taken the lives of two individuals and left many others seriously injured,” stated Sheriff Burnis Wilkins. “What makes this even more disturbing is the involvement of teenagers, alcohol, and guns at a large house party. Dozens of videos posted from the party on multiple platforms simply show that alcohol and guns don’t mix, regardless of age. As seen here, the consequences are once again tragic.”

Burnis also says there is no danger to the community as this is an isolated incident.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Robeson County Sheriff’s investigators at 910-671-3100 or email sheriff.wilkins@robesoncountysonc.gov .
